The elusive Samsung Galaxy S6 Active has appeared on a Samsung support page, adding fuel to the rumour that its launch is imminent.
What’s strange is that according to the listed specifications, it’s almost identical to the regular Samsung Galaxy S6.
Previous leaks have suggested that the S6 Active won’t include a
fingerprint scanner, but it will have a bigger removable battery and
include a microSD slot. The support page – launched today – that
features the Active tells an entirely different story.
A rumour recently reported on
suggested that there will be a much bigger 3500mAh battery, a larger
frame with the dimensions: 146.9 x 73.6 x 8.8 mm, and a microSD slot.
Today’s leak, however, details that Samsung will stick the the 2500mAh
battery, no microSD slot, a fingerprint scanner and stay loyal to the
current S6 dimensions.
It seems strange that the rumours could’ve been so wrong for months,
but it’s possible. What’s also possible is that those specifications are
a placeholder for the actual specifications of the soon-to-be-released
handset. The fact that the width and weight of the device is no
different -when the active models are typically larger – support this
idea.
The picture featured on the site certainly seems to be the S6 Active,
because the design is clearly different with three its raised buttons
and more angular shape. It also has the same model number as the
rumoured active device ‘SM-G890A’.
The attached user manual
goes into more detail about what to expect from the S6 Active. It also
confirms previous leaks that suggested the speakers had been moved to
the back –the inclusion of an active button, and more rugged casing.
Samsung Launched the S5 Active in May last year, one month after the
official release of the S5. There seems to be a delay this time around,
but seeing an official version on the Samsung website suggests that it’s
on the way.
