AVG Technologies released its quarterly list of the Android apps that it
says are having a negative impact on your phone. These are the apps
that are draining your battery, eating all of your memory and consuming
all of your data. The metrics from over 1 million Android units was
examined and music streamer Spotify tops the list of apps that have an
overall negative impact on the performance of your phone.
While
Spotify can slow down your device while the app is open, it turns out
that Facebook can gum up the workings of your handset even if the app is
closed. As soon as you turn your phone on, the social media app starts
making your phone sluggish. Looking at apps that chew your data, Tumblr
leads the way with Snapchat second. BBC News, Netflix and Spotify round
out the top five.
Speaking of Spotify, the music streamer can use the storage on your phone to hold 3333 songs. That action puts Spotify on top of the list of apps that are storage hogs. The Chrome Browser is second, followed by the Line Camera, Kindle and SoundCloud.

"Many
of us take everyday practical apps like weather and chat for granted
and despite spending little time on them, the impact on our devices is
actually quite significant. A number of unexpected apps such as these
are consuming battery, storage, and data traffic without users'
knowledge -- and, in many cases, for no good reason. So if you're
wondering why you're not getting the best performance out of your
device, this could well be why."-Tony Anscombe, Senior Security
Evangelist, AVG Technologies
You're probably dying to know which apps are most responsible for the battery drain on your phone. Among apps that auto start, the Beaming Service for Samsung is the worst offender. Among apps that are user-run, Samsung WatchON is on top of the list. Some popular user-run apps that can suck the power right out of your battery include Snapchat and Walmart. The latter pair ranked fourth and fifth, respectively.
